Nick's Tour Notes

This tour is a fabulous day out; we’ll experience truly stunning scenery, fascinating local history, a few Cornish hidden gems and some of Cornwall’s top visitor attractions.

After collecting you from your accommodation we’ll journey by private minibus to the Southernmost tip of mainland Britain on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula, stopping on the way to pick up an award-winning pasty for lunch before going on to the Lizard village where we start the walk.

The walk is approximately 10km and can be adapted to suit the needs of the group (anything we don’t see on foot we can get to by minibus).

The moderate circular route takes us to Church Cove where we’ll see a see traditional thatched cottages and day fishing boats on the ancient slipway. Joining the South West Coast Path we head West, past the RNLI Lizard Lifeboat Station and Marconi’s Wireless Station before reaching the magestic Lizard Lighthouse and legendary Lizard Point. After stopping for a pasty lunch we carry on the coast path past various landmarks and beaches before reaching last stop the instagram famous Kynance Cove with it’s turquoise water and white sand beach. We’ll take a pit stop at  Kynance Cove Cafe to admire the views and enjoy a well deserved Cornish cream tea before the final walk looping back inland to the tour bus in the village.

Tour Itinerary

Pick Up
Lizard Village
Lizard Point signpost near Cornish ice cream shop.

Our walk starts in the picturesque Lizard Village where we'll pick up some award winning Anne's Cornish Pasties for our lunch.

Church Cove
Thatched cottage near seaside under cloudy sky.

We make our way to the South West Coast Path at Church Cove where quaint thatched cottages lead to the historic slipway which is still used for launching the small fleet of fishing boats.

Lizard Lifeboat Station
Aerial view of historic coastal boathouse on rocky shore.

Set at the foot of a 45-metre cliff, The Lizard Lifeboat Station not only houses Rose, the station’s Tamar class all-weather lifeboat, but has a fantastic heritage display showcasing over 157 years of lifesaving at sea on The Lizard peninsula.

Lizard Wireless Station
Lizard Wireless Station open sign by the coast.

We pass by the Lizard Wireless Station, established in 1900 by Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi, it was one of a dozen coastal UK stations which handled ship-to-shore messages, for a fee. It was the first coastal radio station to receive an SOS call when in 1910 the Minnehaha, aground off the Isles of Scilly, radioed for help.

Housel Bay Beach
Secluded beach with house on rocky cliffside

If the tide is low we can stop for a rest at this secluded beach sitting below the serpentine cliffs with the clearest turquoise water imaginable.

The Lion's Den Blow Hole
Dramatic sea cliffs with grassy top and ocean view.

Below the coast path near Lizard Lighthouse is a 35 metre deep hole created by the collapse of the roof of a sea cave. During rough weather the sea in the 'Lions Den' can appear to boil !

Lizard Lighthouse
White lighthouse on grassy hill under bright sky.

The current lighthouse,  maintained by Trinity House, was built in 1751 as a landfall and coastal mark giving a guide to vessels in passage along the English Channel and warning of the hazardous waters off Lizard Point.

Lizard Point
Fishing boats on rocky Cornish coast

The southernmost point of mainland Great Britian. The first sighting of the Spanish Armada on mainland Britain was off Lizard Point on 29 July 1588.

Pistil Meadow
Coastal landscape with cliffs and ocean view.

Local folklore has it that this is the site of a mass garve of over 200 seamen who lost their lives when the Royal Anne troop ship went down on the off-lying reefs in 1720.

Pentreath Beach
Cornish beach with rocks, sea, and cliffs

A striking west facing sandy beach. The difficult access keeps the crowds away but we may see some diehard local surfers.

Kynance Cove
Rocky coastal landscape with clear blue skies.

No trip to the Lizard would be complete without a stop at this instagram famous beach with its white sand, turquoise sea and rock stacks.
