The tour of Cornwall was excellent. Nick knew a lot about local towns and sites. He pointed out many things we did not know about before we visited. It was very nice not having to drive ourselves. We never had to worry about directions or parking as it was all taken care of. I highly recommend this tour company. It made exploring the area of Cornwall easy and stress free.

I arranged a custom family history tour with Nick during some free time on a group tour. He created a thoughtful 5-hour itinerary around Camborne and Redruth, taking me to mining sites, cemeteries, and town centers connected to my ancestors. Nick was well-prepared and knowledgeable, and made the experience both informative and meaningful. Highly recommend!

Nick went above and beyond taking me on a fantastic Day Tour of West Cornwall. He exceeded all of my (high) expectations. Nick’s knowledge is extensive— of the rich history of the area, of the many sights and activities available to a first time visitor to the area, and of traffic patterns and parking spots. He kindly adjusted our schedule to accommodate accessing the causeway at Saint Michael’s Mount at low tide and tweaked our itinerary so we could enjoy some places that topped my wish list. I look forward to booking another wonderful tour with him next time I return.

Nick’s tour was FANTASTIC, to say the least. He went out of his way to design an outstanding set of tours, and for us it was the Lizard Peninsula and North Cornwall. Both were well planned and the scenery fabulous. He is a wonderful guide, knowledgeable and very personable, and just a lot of fun! Highly recommend his tours.

We've had a wonderful tour of the Lizard peninsular with Nick as our guide for the day. We got to see many beautiful places that we would never have got to, or found otherwise. Nick was extremely informative, accommodating, great fun and sensitive to all our needs (knees and hills!), he even organised fantastic weather! Thank you Cornwall Tours, we will definitely be booking again in the future as it's a perfect way to see this beautiful County.

Nick was absolutely incredible as both a transport from LHR to our Airbnb in Charlestown, and as a tour guide. Nick took my best friend and I on the most amazing adventure hike across the coast of Cornwall, all the way to Lands End, complete with laughs, history of the region, and proper English tea overlooking Logan Rock. Nick single-handedly made the tour seamless, scenic, interesting beyond belief, and took us to parts of Cornwall most only dream of seeing. If you can go on a tour with Nick, don’t walk, RUN! He is THE BEST!!

Tour Itinerary

Pick Up
Charlestown Harbour
Historic ship docked at tranquil seaside harbour.

We visit the picturesque 18th-century port near St Austell, renowned for its traditional charm and historic harbour, featured in Poldark as Truro and Falmouth, whilst the beach doubled as St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly.

Minions
Ponies grazing on a grassy moorland landscape.

Minions, the highest village in Cornwall, sits on the wild and atmospheric Bodmin Moor, famed for its ancient stone circles, historic mining engine houses, and iconic Cheesewring. This timeless landscape features prominently in Poldark, serving as the home to the miners’ cottages and dramatic horseback scenes, including Ross and Demelza’s fateful meeting at a lonely crossroads.

St Breward
bodmin moor photography

St Breward, a charming village on Bodmin Moor, is home to Cornwall’s highest church and served as a key location in Poldark. This dramatic setting provided the backdrop for Ross Poldark’s cottage, Nampara, and Dwight Enys’s cottage in series two, with its rugged beauty perfectly capturing the spirit of the iconic series.

Bodmin Jail
Historic stone tower at dusk, illuminated by lights.

Bodmin Jail, an imposing 18th-century prison steeped in history and legend, served as the grim setting for Jim Carter's incarceration in Poldark Series 1. This harrowing storyline, depicting Ross Poldark's farmhand suffering under the jail’s dire conditions, echoes the prison's real-life reputation as a place of hardship and executions. Today, visitors can explore its eerie museum, learn about its haunted past, and even view the infamous "execution pit."

Park Head
Rocky Cornish coastline and waves in the sea

Park Head, near Porthcothan, offers breathtaking clifftop views above the dramatic Bedruthan Steps, with its iconic sea stacks rising from the crashing waves. This stunning location, also celebrated for its "dark sky discovery" status, served as a memorable backdrop in Poldark Series 2, featuring Ross galloping on horseback along the grassy cliffs and Demelza walking alone with the striking scenery behind her.

Holywell
Sunset over beach with distant rocks and grass.

Holywell Bay, a stunning National Trust beach near Newquay, is instantly recognizable for its golden sands, grass-tufted dunes, and iconic twin rocks offshore. This dramatic location served as Warleggan’s beach in Poldark Series 2, featuring unforgettable scenes of galloping horses, romantic walks with Demelza, and Dwight racing across the sands with Caroline. With its windswept beauty and rugged charm, Holywell Bay perfectly captured the tension and allure of the series.

St Agnes Head
Historic mine building on Cornish coastal cliffs

St Agnes Head, with its dramatic cliffs and iconic engine houses, including the famed Wheal Coates, provided the breathtaking backdrop for many horseback scenes in Poldark. This rugged stretch of Cornwall's north coast, near Perranporth—the home of Poldark author Winston Graham—brought Nampara Valley to life on screen. From Ross galloping along cliff edges to the backdrop of Wheal Coates standing in as Wheal Grace, this location perfectly captures the spirit of the series and offers visitors stunning panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean.
