Minions, the highest village in Cornwall, sits on the wild and atmospheric Bodmin Moor, famed for its ancient stone circles, historic mining engine houses, and iconic Cheesewring. This timeless landscape features prominently in Poldark, serving as the home to the miners’ cottages and dramatic horseback scenes, including Ross and Demelza’s fateful meeting at a lonely crossroads.
St Breward, a charming village on Bodmin Moor, is home to Cornwall’s highest church and served as a key location in Poldark. This dramatic setting provided the backdrop for Ross Poldark’s cottage, Nampara, and Dwight Enys’s cottage in series two, with its rugged beauty perfectly capturing the spirit of the iconic series.
Bodmin Jail, an imposing 18th-century prison steeped in history and legend, served as the grim setting for Jim Carter's incarceration in Poldark Series 1. This harrowing storyline, depicting Ross Poldark's farmhand suffering under the jail’s dire conditions, echoes the prison's real-life reputation as a place of hardship and executions. Park Head, near Porthcothan, offers breathtaking clifftop views above the dramatic Bedruthan Steps, with its iconic sea stacks rising from the crashing waves. This stunning location, also celebrated for its "dark sky discovery" status, served as a memorable backdrop in Poldark Series 2, featuring Ross galloping on horseback along the grassy cliffs and Demelza walking alone with the striking scenery behind her.
St Agnes Head, with its dramatic cliffs and iconic engine houses, including the famed Wheal Coates, provided the breathtaking backdrop for many horseback scenes in Poldark. This rugged stretch of Cornwall's north coast, near Perranporth—the home of Poldark author Winston Graham—brought Nampara Valley to life on screen. Our one-day tours typically run for 8 hours but may be longer depending on pick-up location and seasonal traffic.
We recommend bringing a raincoat, suitable footwear for the coast path and a little spending money.
Don’t worry Cornwall is still beautiful in the rain! We will adapt the tour to ensure it doesn’t affect your enjoyment of the day.
