Nick's Tour Notes

This tour is a fabulous day out; we’ll experience truly stunning scenery, fascinating local history, a few Cornish hidden gems and some of Cornwall’s top visitor attractions.

We are also likely to encounter some local wildlife, it’s not unusual to spot seals playing in the surf and the Cornish Chough, with their distictive red feet and bills, flying above the cliffs.

After collecting you from your accommodation we’ll journey by private minibus to West Cornwall, stopping on the way at Marazion to take in the views of St Michael’s Mount and Mounts Bay. We’ll then head out through Penzance to St Buryan to pick up an award-winning pasty for lunch before going on to the village of Treen where we start the walk.

The walk is approximately 8km and can be adapted do suit the needs of the group (anything we don’t see on foot we can get to by minibus).

The moderate circular route follows an ancient wooded valley to join the coast path at Penberth Cove, then via Porthcurno and the Minack Theatre to Porthchapel before looping back inland via the historic St Levan Church, past PK Porthcurno (the Museum of Global Communications) and finishing at the Logan Rock Inn at Treen for a well deserved Cornish cream tea or glass of local ale.

We’ll then journey by minibus to Land’s End to watch the sunset and take a short stroll out to the spectular headland at the far western tip of Cornwall before dropping you back home.

Tour Itinerary

Pick Up
Marazion

Savour the view across Mount's Bay to St Michael's Mount before we drive over to the far west corner of Cornwall via Penzance for our walk.

St Buryan
pasty

We'll make a quick pit-stop en route at St Buryan to pick up some award-winning Cornish pasties for our lunch.

Treen
treen walk

We start the walk in the village of Treen, following an ancient path through beautiful wooded valley to the picturesque hamlet of Pemberth.

Penberth Cove

We continue down to Pemberth Cove, a secluded cove and Poldark filming location, complete with an old wooden capstan used to winch the fishing boats up the granite block slipway.

Treryn Dinas Cliff Castle

We head west along the rugged coast path to this Iron Age promontary fort, also known as Treen Castle situated on the cliff top of a narrow granite headland.

Logan Rock

Here we can spot The Logan Rock, a fine example of a logan or rocking stone. Although it weighs some 80 tons, it was dislodged in 1824 by a group of British seamen, intent on showing what the Navy could do.

Pedn Vounder

Continuing west we stop at a natural viewing platform to take in the dramatic views above Pedn Vounder, a beach made famous by Instagram for its dramatic cliffs, golden sands and turquoise waters.

Porthcurno
porthcurno beach

The path takes us down to a spectacular golden beach used as a backdrop to a dream sequence starring Ross and Demelza in the BBC drama 'Poldark' and home to The Wendy House, built in the rocks in the 1920s by Rowena Cade for her sister's children.

Minack Theatre
Minack Theatre

We'll stop for lunch next to the Minack Theatre where the incredible visionary Rowena Cade transformed a Cornish cliff-face into an open-air arena, much of it literally built with her own hands.

Porthchapel Beach
porthchapel beach

After lunch our walk takes us past this remote sandy beach sheltered by tall granite cliffs.  Swimming is possible on calm days, and as it's less famous than the other beaches on the walk, it doesn't draw the crowds.

St Levan's Holy Well
st levan holy well

Just above the beach is the holy well of St Levan and the recently excavated remains of a medieval chapel and cell. It was said that drinking the water from the well would cure toothache and eye diseases.

St Levan Church
st levan church

Heading inland we come St Levan Church with it's unusal granite coffin rest and a split rock known as the 'St Levan Stone'.  In pre-Christian times, the stone was venerated for its powers and particularly in connection with fertility rites.

PK Porthcurno

The walk now heads east past the Museum of Global Communications, where 150 years ago, the first international telegraph cable was brought ashore connecting Britain to India and later other parts of the British Empire.

The Logan Rock Inn

We finish the walk back in Treen with time to stop in the village pub for a traditional cream tea or perhaps a pint of local ale.

Land's End
Land's End

We'll round off the tour with a short drive along the coast to Land's End and a sunset walk to the headland with views to the Enys Dodnan arch and Longships Lighthouse before heading back to your drop-off point.
